Tiko mobilisers in Ethiopia share their stories
Jerry, 32 , Tiko mobiliser, L4G community organization, Addis Ababa
“My journey began at home, watching my sister find a bigger purpose and grow her income as a Tiko mobiliser. Seeing her impact made me realise I could also be a catalyst for change.
In my community, unplanned pregnancies and unsafe abortions are harsh realities that steal a girl’s education and independence. As a mobiliser, I bridge the gap for young people aged 15–24, connecting them to clinical services, family planning, and sexual and gender-based violence support. Tiko is a powerful model because it meets girls exactly where they are with thorough, accessible counselling.
The shift I see is profound. Girls are prioritising themselves, making intentional choices, and carrying themselves with a new sense of self-confidence. They are becoming empowered leaders of their own lives.
I have become more than a mobiliser. I am a sister who understands their struggle. My own dream is to master fashion design and open a garment factory to create jobs here. I want every girl to be equipped and self-confident – defined by choice, not chance.”

“I joined Tiko as a mobiliser four years ago. My oldest daughter has an illness. Before joining Tiko, I hadn’t gone out for five years. My routine was the same. I only took care of my daughter. No going anywhere, no job… I was depressed. Tiko helped me change my life.
My grandparents started taking care of my daughter so that I could go out and work. Then I was able to bring change to my life, for my children and my family. And beyond that, to my community, and to my friends.
As a mobiliser, I have helped 13 girls and young women enrol in Tiko’s ecosystem. I go around the neighbourhood and ask if there are any girls needing support. I introduce myself as a Tiko mobiliser.
The girls we support thank us a lot. They are happy to have someone they can talk to about their challenges.”
