Major gaps leave girls unprotected

Young people aged 15-24 years old make up around a fifth of Ethiopia’s population. Adolescent girls are among the most vulnerable. Around 40% are married by the age of 18, exposing them to domestic violence, early pregnancy and health risks. While HIV rates are lower among young people than adults, a 3% prevalence rate among adults aged over 15 in Addis Ababa in 2025 highlights a worrying trend – the virus continues to spread among this generation.

Significant school dropout rates, high rates of coerced and transactional sex driven by poverty, and major gaps in healthcare provision leave girls without the safety and protection they need to thrive.

Expanding our reach and impact

We work with more than 80 public and private health facilities, and 10 community-based organizations, in densely-populated areas of Addis Ababa and Hawassa, with plans to expand to four further cities by 2030: Dire Dawa, Mekelle, Adama and Harar.

We continue to increase the number of public clinics we work with, scaling contraception, HIV and sexual violence services in areas where there is the greatest need. Working closely with national and regional health leaders, we ensure our programmes and priorities align with government health policies and goals for lasting impact.
