A crisis calling for urgent action

In Burkina Faso, the triple threat of unintended pregnancy, HIV and sexual violence prevents adolescent girls from continuing their education and pursuing their potential. This cycle of harm results in a cycle of deep poverty. Lack of access to family planning results in high rates of unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions among adolescent girls. Early and forced marriage is common. HIV rates among young people are on the rise, while severe insecurity, displacement and conflict have led to an increase sexual violence against girls and young women.

Limited access to sexual and reproductive health education, family planning services, and support for survivors of sexual violence denies many girls the knowledge or power to make choices about their own bodies.

Invest in girls

Partnering to put power into girls’ hands

The Sira Connect project, implemented in partnership with Pathfinder International in Burkina Faso, leverages our tech-enabled ecosystem approach to improve girls’ access to vital ‘triple threat’ health services by putting choice and power into girls’ hands. Through our integrated healthcare model, adolescent girls in two urban areas are now able to access modern contraceptive services, HIV care, and support for sexual violence survivors through public and private providers.

Our model

Explore our ecosystem approach

Sira Connect links girls to a no-cost, integrated ecosystem of healthcare and support, designed around their lives. The ecosystem consists of peer mobilisers, community-based organizations, health providers and retailers who are all connected to the Sira Connect platform to give girls access to family planning, HIV prevention and treatment, sexual violence screening and support, and health products.

Our community voices

The free sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services that Sira Connect offers allow us to avoid early pregnancies. Additionally, I have the opportunity to exchange my Sira Connect Miles for sanitary pads at partner shops. All of this is a great help to us as young girls.

As a healthcare provider, I have observed that Sira Connect’s services are of immense importance in the lives of young girls. Indeed, they help them better understand their bodies and manage their sexuality more effectively. Since I am deeply concerned for their well-being, I can be extremely satisfied with the partnership that exists between Sira Connect and our private health center Chandelier d’Or in the Ouagadougou ecosystem.

Sira Connect is a lifesaving organization for our society and for young girls in particular. As a healthcare provider, Sira Connect has brought me a great deal on both a professional and personal level. In fact, it has allowed me to receive extensive training and significant capacity building related to sexual and reproductive health. This has even enabled me to become a resource person within my professional environment. Additionally, the Sira Connect Miles we receive after validated services are a true source of motivation. We can exchange them for internet data bundles and other products, which improves our living and working conditions.

In my ecosystem, Sira Connect contributes significantly to raising awareness among young girls about sexual and reproductive health, which helps reduce cases of early pregnancy in schools. In addition to this, this initiative has given me the opportunity, as a mobiliser, to receive training in non-clinical family planning and social and behavioural change communication. Sira Connect has also allowed me to build my self-confidence and gain a source of income through Sira Connect Miles. Thanks to Sira Connect for changing our lives!
