Seline’s journey of healing and hope

At just 19 years old, Seline had already faced more challenges than many do in a lifetime. From Kenya, she lost both of her parents when she was still a child, an unimaginable tragedy that forced her to grow up too fast. To survive, she worked quietly as a house helper, carrying herself with strength beyond her years. Life moved quickly, and like many girls in similar situations, she was married off early.

But even in the middle of hardship, Seline’s spirit never gave up.

Her first connection to Tiko came through an Interpersonal Therapy Group, a safe and supportive space where young women share their stories and begin to heal. For the first time, Seline felt heard. She found her voice. These sessions helped her unpack years of trauma, build emotional strength, and start believing in herself again.

As her confidence grew, Seline made another life-changing decision. She took charge of her reproductive health. With support from Tiko, she accessed family planning services, giving her the power to plan her future, not just for herself, but for her husband and the younger siblings now depending on her.

But her journey didn’t stop there.

Seline was connected through Tiko, to join a three-week hospitality training programme. With renewed focus and energy she could start building a future on her own terms.

Her outstanding performance during the training earned her an attachment at Bijou Hotel in Mlolongo. There, she quickly impressed everyone around her. She showed up every day, on time, ready to give her best. What made her dedication even more inspiring is the quiet sacrifice behind it. After her internship, Seline was officially hired by the hotel as a full-time employee.

Her supervisor couldn’t be prouder, “Seline’s work is excellent. She is hardworking, disciplined, punctual, and committed. We’re lucky to have her.”

As a young wife and the sole provider at home, Seline carries a heavy load with quiet strength and dignity. Her story is not just one of survival, it’s a story of transformation, resilience, and hope.

Though her challenges have not disappeared, Seline now has the opportunity to thrive. She is a shining example of what happens when a young woman is given the chance to dream again and the tools to make those dreams come true.
